Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger accuses team of showing lack of focus in Wigan defeat

Strikes from Theo Walcott and Mikaël Silvestre appeared to have taken Wenger’s team to within three points of league leaders Chelsea, and two of Manchester United, with just three games to play.
But after three goals in the last 10 minutes from Ben Watson, Titus Bramble and Charles N’Zogbia, Wenger admitted his side were punished for their failure to retain their focus.
“In football you have to keep focused for 90 minutes,” the Arsenal manager said. “Especially against a team that has nothing to lose and is fighting to stay up, as Wigan were.
"We did not stay concentrated and we were punished for that in the end.
“I never thought the game was over because I saw we were having difficulties keeping the ball and creating chances. When you do not create chances you are always going to be in trouble.
"I was concerned because after the game went to 2-0 we lacked cohesion and discipline in our play and I always felt we could be punished for that.
“If we had won this game, absolutely we would be in the title race. Now, though, we have to concentrate on the last three games.
"Manchester City and Tottenham can both catch us, so we have to win at least one more game.”
Wenger was more forgiving of stand-in goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, whose fumble handed Wigan defender Bramble an equaliser with just a minute left to play.
“You cannot say we lost this game because of the goalkeeper,” he said.
